We are so excited to have Mrs. Rachel Carle as our teacher at Sitka Adventist School. She joined our community in 2021. Originally from Colorado, she moved to Lincoln, NE to attend Union College. During summer breaks, she and her now husband Wes, worked at summer camps all over Alaska. Upon graduating with her degree in Elementary Education, they moved to New Mexico where she taught K-2nd grades while keeping an eye open for schools in Alaska. Mrs. Carle grew up in a one-room school with her father as her teacher. It was watching her dad that inspired her to teach. She enjoys helping students reach their potential in all areas, and developing relationships with them. She especially enjoys watching their growth.
Mrs. Carle has been such a blessing to our kids and school. She is extremely organized, calm, and kind. Most of all, she loves her students. She has had some really great new ideas such as Boys Night Out (a nerf war) and Girls Night Out (pampering and boba tea) .The students talked about it for weeks. This year, she started monthly Life Skills Day's where students work on life skills such as water safety, baking, car maintenance, and meal planning. We all know, Monday mornings can be difficult. The students have loved Monday Morning Cafe, where they drink hot cocoa with Mrs. Carle and start their week on a relaxing note while connecting with each other. There are monthly field trips planned and weekly outdoor adventures, exploring Sitka.
Students describe Mrs. Carle as kind, calm, organized and a good teacher. Parents like that she works with kids at their own pace, allows plenty of outdoor time and is a good communicator.
In her free time, Mrs. Carle enjoys being outdoors with friends and family and experimenting with new recipes.
